Dear San Diego Patriots,
Today, I posted about an alarming diminishing national trend in basic skills, but what should truly light every San Diegan's hair on fire is the stark reality right here in our own backyard. Our children are not being educated; they are being indoctrinated. This travesty must end, and it ends only when 'We the People' stand up and demand better. The recent spectacle at the San Dieguito Board Meeting was nothing short of infuriating. Here, we have faculty patting themselves on the back for incrementally raising test scores, yet these numbers mask a devastating truth: our average student is still floundering, not just struggling, but failing in the most fundamental subjects like math and reading. In San Dieguito, their student’s average math competency scores are a failing 60%, and reading is barely passing 75%-these kids will not survive the workforce or make a livable wage when they graduate!
“Literacy and math are where the skill levels have dropped. In 2017, 19% of American adults scored at the lowest literacy level; that total has now risen to 28%. Similarly, 29% of adults in 2017 scored at the lowest math skill level; that percentage is now 34%.”
Here is a sample across the three regions of San Diego County:
Our kids are not mere statistics or fractional percentiles to be boasted about in boardrooms. They are human beings, each with potential, dreams, and a right to an education that equips them for the future, not one that leaves them behind. It's time to stop the theatrics and start focusing on real education.
Maybe it’s just me, but I doubt the San Dieguito Superintendent has earned a half-million-dollar salary. Any CEO making $500K would be held to the highest performance standards and responsible for generating at least $200M in revenues yearly.
We must demand accountability, transparency, and, most importantly, a return to true education principles where reading, writing, and arithmetic are not just benchmarks but foundations of learning. We cannot allow our schools to become stages for political agendas or empty accolades.
San Diego, join me in this fight to Reclaim San Diego and San Diego Schools. Let's rally together to ensure our schools are places of learning, not indoctrination. Our children deserve nothing less than the best education we can provide, and it's our responsibility to make sure they get it. The future of our community, our state, and our nation depends on it.
It's time to say, "Enough!" It's time to act. Let's make our voices heard until the change we seek is not just promised but delivered. Our kids, our future, depend on us. Let's not fail them.
