A Christians and Jews United for Israel and Against Anti-Semitism held on 9/7 at the Legacy Center in San Diego, with moving music and powerful speakers including local pastors, rabbi’s, and a former Hamas hostage held by Gazan civilians for 245 days, was left unprotected and disrupted!
Although yesterday was a beautiful, uplifting, and powerful event, laws were broken and the Jewish community was left, once again, unprotected by the SDPD.
We need your help TODAY, letting the Chief of Police and the SD City Council Members, and the Mayor know that it is NOT ok to leave the Jewish community unprotected.
We need your help to call AND email the following (it is very important that you call AND email):
SD Police Chief Scott Wahl:
619-744-9500
Mayor Todd Gloria:
619-236-6330
Council Member Stephen Whitburn:
619-236-6633
BE KIND, COURTEOUS, YET FIRM:
Script: I am calling about a recent Christians and Jews United for Israel and Against Anti-Semitism event held on 9/7 at the Legacy Center in San Diego left unprotected and disrupted for an hour without assistance by law enforcement. Hold these protestors accountable to the fullest extent of the law and protect our community. Thank you.”
Other Talking Points:
Noise ordinance laws were broken- protestors used air horns for close to an hour
Trespassing- protestors camp up to the Legacy Center property
The property entrance was blocked, causing traffic hazards, AND protestors hit guests' cars and jumped on their hoods
It took the police almost an hour to show up
OUR RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH WAS TAKEN AWAY. The law prohibits air horns from being used. The police didn't do anything to stop the sirens and pot banging or to enforce our right to free speech. As the CA Supreme Court stated in 1970 in re Kay, "the state retains a legitimate concern in ensuring that some individuals' unruly assertion of their rights of free expression does not imperil other citizens ' rights of free association and discussion." Even in public forums such as public streets, sidewalks, etc, it is well-settled that the First Amendment allows the imposition of reasonable content-neutral time, place, and manner restrictions.
Vandalism - protestors sprayed red graffiti on Legacy's property
