Roadmap to $3 Gas at the Pump
San Diego’s skyrocketing gas prices, currently averaging a punishing $4.643 per gallon, are squeezing working families, far exceeding California’s $4.475 and the national $3.140 averages. Steve Hilton, in his book ‘Califailure’, proposes a bold plan to slash prices to $3 per gallon by targeting the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) restrictive regulations, like the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, which inflate costs. For San Diego County’s 2.5 million registered vehicles, mostly gas-powered, this could save the average driver $1,280 annually—money that could cover groceries or rent. Hilton’s strategy includes deregulating oil production, reopening refineries, and replacing CARB’s director with someone prioritizing affordability. As he states, “Today, unelected bureaucrat Liane Randolph raised your gas prices. On Day 1 as governor, I will remove her and start rolling back extreme climate regulations.” Leveraging California’s oil reserves and federal energy policies, Hilton’s plan offers a lifeline to ease the burden on the working class and fix the state’s broken system.
Stop a Dangerous “Child Trafficker’s and Kidnapper’s Dream” Bill
California’s Assembly Bill 495, misleadingly titled the “Family Preparedness Plan Act of 2025,” poses a grave threat to children’s safety, having passed the Assembly and now racing through the Senate. This bill allows anyone claiming a vague “familial or mentoring relationship”—even distant relatives or ex-spouses—to gain guardianship of a child with just a one-page affidavit, no background checks or court oversight required. Schools are barred from contacting Child Protective Services when a stranger presents this flimsy form and a driver’s license, creating what Attorney Erin Friday calls a “child trafficker’s and kidnapper’s dream.” With family abductions already comprising 49% of cases, often linked to custody disputes, and sex trafficking surpassing drugs as the top criminal enterprise, AB 495’s lack of verification invites predators to exploit children. Attorney Nicole Pearson warns it’s a “terrifying loophole” that could allow strangers to authorize medical treatments or relocate kids without parental consent. San Diegans are urged to visit reclaimsandiego.com, contact their state senator, and demand a “NO” vote to stop this dangerous bill and protect children from California’s reckless legislation.
Stop Union from Cancelling Charter Schools
Assembly Bill 84, deceptively framed as an “accountability” measure, threatens to dismantle California’s charter schools, which educate 11% of the state’s 6 million students and provide critical options for families underserved by traditional schools. Having passed the Assembly 43-25 and now advancing in the Senate, AB 84 exploits the A3 scandal—a $400 million fraud case in San Diego—to justify a broad attack on all charter schools, particularly non-classroom-based programs like Ocean Grove and Pacific Coast Academy that serve homeschoolers, special-needs students, and at-risk youth. The bill slashes funding by up to 30% for schools with more than 25% home or hybrid learning, mandates credentialed teachers for all instruction—eliminating specialized vendors like STEM or arts programs—and creates a new bureaucracy to choke charters with red tape. Critics, including the California Charter Schools Association, call it a union-driven power grab by the California Teachers Association, aiming to control the state’s $100 billion education budget and stifle competition. Krystin Demofonte, director of Pacific Coast Academy, warns, “This isn’t about accountability; it’s about elimination.” San Diegans must act to protect the 130,000 charter students, many from working-class families, by calling state senators to demand a “NO” vote on AB 84 and preserve educational freedom.

Congratulations to the New SD California Republican Assembly
The newly formed San Diego California Republican Assembly, serving Greater Escondido, Poway, and Rancho Bernardo, has received unanimous approval from the California Republican Assembly (CRA) state board, as confirmed by CRA President Carl Brickey. This milestone grants the assembly full rights and duties under the CRA Bylaws, including the ability to endorse candidates and send delegates to the CRA’s annual convention. The assembly’s formation marks a significant step in advancing conservative values in San Diego County, empowering local communities to shape the region’s political landscape. The assembly hit the ground running with a highly successful political leadership training event last Saturday, attended by 36 enthusiastic students eager to learn tools for promoting conservative principles, held at Christ Community Reformed Church. This new assembly is poised to make a lasting impact, and we congratulate all involved for their dedication to building a stronger, more principled San Diego. Join the movement by staying engaged and supporting their mission to reclaim conservative leadership in the region.
