The San Diego County Board of Supervisors is facing a projected budget deficit of $138.5 million for the upcoming fiscal year, which is expected to grow to $321.8 million by fiscal year 2029-30. Close to 25%, or $30.6M, of this deficit can be attributed to funding appropriated toward illegal migrant benefits and services!
The Liberal Majority Supervisory Board has, over the past few years, allocated significant resources to support undocumented immigrants, often referred to as "illegal aliens" in some political discourse. Here's a breakdown of recent actions:
2022: $5M annually was allocated to the Immigrant Rights Legal Defense Program to provide legal defense for detained immigrants facing deportation, including those convicted of serious crimes such as drug smuggling, murder, and rape. Supervisors Jim Desmond and Joel Anderson criticized this funding. A total of $20M has been allocated so far.
2023: $3M was granted to support local organizations in offering services like transportation, Wi-Fi access, food, hygiene kits, and other necessities to aid migrants in moving beyond San Diego County. An additional $3M was allocated to South Bay Community Services (SBCS) to manage a temporary welcome center in Chula Vista for migrants.
2024: San Diego received $19.6 million from FEMA to fund "long-term solutions" for migrant assistance, including the establishment of a migrant transition center.
2024: The Escondido migrant center, officially known as the Inland Immigrant and Refugee Welcome Center, opened in December 2024 and it costs taxpayers approximately $300,000 annually to operate.
2025: A "Super Sanctuary Resolution" was passed to limit county resources available for federal immigration enforcement, potentially impacting how funds are utilized in relation to immigration activities, making San Diego a "super sanctuary" county.
Thanks to the Trump administration and the taxpayer-defending activities of D.O.G.E., San Diego made headlines this weekend with a significant development in local migrant support services. The Jewish Family Service of San Diego, which has operated a regional migrant shelter for over six years, announced its closure and the layoff of 115 employees. This decision comes in the wake of "changes in federal funding and policy" under the Trump administration, marking a dramatic shift in the landscape of migrant assistance in the region. The cessation of funding and the strategic policy changes are seen as a direct outcome of efforts to prioritize taxpayer interests and tighten immigration controls, showcasing the administration's commitment to altering how public funds are allocated in support of immigration-related services.
The Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) received $47.9 million in government grants for the fiscal year ending June 2023 and $20.4 million in other contributions, totaling $68.3M in one year alone. Last year, JFS was awarded $22 million from FEMA's Shelter and Services Program (SSP) in September 2024, but has not yet received this funding. They’ve only serviced 248,000 migrants since 2018. Illegal migrant services is clearly a CASH COW and a huge waste of taxpayer money
The Catholic Charities, Diocese of San Diego: received $21.6 million from the same FEMA SSP grant round in 2024 as JFS to provide “transition shelter.”
This report barely scratches the surface of government waste in San Diego. It’s time for us to prioritize common sense in San Diego, prioritize taxpayers, and restore fiduciary responsibilities and public safety, starting with the obvious!
Supervisor Jim Desmond has been on the frontlines, fighting against a leftwing majority until recently, when the former Supervisor Chair Norma Vargas resigned. This left the board at a 2-2 until a special election with a strong conservative candidate, Chula Vista Mayor John McCann, throwing his hat in the rink. This is our chance to flip the Supervisor Board, balance the budget, and reverse woke and wasteful spending!

Desmond has announced he is running for Congressional District 49 to flip this seat red in 2026!
